The experience-oriented traffic awareness tool: Experience dangerous traffic situations on the unique interactive bicycle driving simulator.
The Virtual Reality Bicycle Simulator is a tool for prevention and awareness campaigns that consists of a real bicycle and components such as a fan, VR glasses and a notebook PC. The pedaling, steering and braking movements of the bicycle are transferred to software using sensors so that the person experiences an authentic ride in virtual reality.

The virtual reality bike is a system that consists of a real bike and components such as a fan, VR glasses and notebook. The pedaling, steering and braking movements of the bicycle are transferred to software by means of sensors so that the person experiences their ride in a virtual reality.
By means of different dangerous situations competencies are developed, that can be transferred to concrete everyday situations. Decisions in favor of road safety should be positively influenced - regardless of the road users' point of view. In addition, it should be possible to experience the effects of reduced driving ability on the journey.
Purpose and aim of the simulator
The aim of the project is the development of virtual reality bicycle simulators for the prevention of bicycle accidents.

Our VR bike simulator has already generated a lot of interest in the editorial section of various media. You can see a small excerpt of previous publications here. As you can see for yourself, the reactions to our unique VR bike system have been consistently positive.

In the following video, you can get a first impression of how our simulator setup works. Just like on a normal bicycle, our VR solution allows you to ride around freely in the area and experience realistic situations in an authentic way. This realistic simulation allows dangerous traffic situations to be imitated without risk, providing optimum road safety training.
How does the VR Bike system work

The VR Bike System consists of several components: On the one hand, a bicycle with low entry, a smart trainer, a powerful VR notebook, VR glasses and sensors that record speed, steering and braking behavior.
The VR Bike System can be transported using a station wagon or any vehicle that has enough space to transport a bike and is set up within 30 minutes.
Commissioning should ideally be carried out by employees who have received one-time training from us (initial training time approx. 2-3 hours, including test run for setting up and dismantling the VR bike). See Hardware VR Bike for more information.
As a rule, the VR Bike is used in a supervised manner, ie one person is at the VR Bike and supervises the people who want to try out the VR Bike. They sit on the VR Bike and can drive various risk scenes as desired, such as night driving without lights, change of perspective between bike and truck, etc. See software for

Scenes as seen through the VR glasses of the simulator system
Below you will find some scenes as seen through the VR glasses of the bike simulator and an exemplary evaluation of a virtual ride. Situations such as a car door suddenly opening or a pedestrian emerging from behind a vehicle can be realistically simulated in the goggles. By repeating the individual dangerous situations several times, the cyclist can be sensitized for everyday life and learns to recognize and assess dangerous situations in road traffic better and faster.
